Thanks to the thousands of people we played for at Pingstock...OK, that's not entirely true...Thanks to the many hundreds that came out...OK, still not true...How about thanks to all 50 of you that saw us play...Whoever was responsible for promoting this event should be fired...It was a great setup with camping, stripper dunk tanks, radio stations, tattoo booths, and more security personnel than fans...When we got there and saw the nice stage and huge PA (all top-notch) we thought it was gonna be a great gig...We had a blast playing anyway...But the killer of the night was when the "VIP Band Area" started serving foam...We now affectionately call it Foamfest or Pingflop...

Also, the shows scheduled with Enuff Z'Nuff in September are being moved to November since Chip is still out touring with Missing Persons...Dates to be posted soon as we get confirmations together....Melt will only play on Friday, September 16 and neither Melt or Fig will play on Saturday...Mike and Mark's band SR2 will be there Saturday for you cover-lovers...

Let's see...What else is going on?  Oh yeah, I will be on an upcoming Butch Walker (if you don't know him- do yourself a favor www.butchwalker.com ) tribute CD as well as having a song placed on an upcoming benefit CD for Ricky Parent.  Ricky is the drummer for Enuff Z'Nuff and has been undergoing cancer treatment for an extensive period...He's a great guy and a fabulous drummer - your support in buying this one when it comes out will help him continue to get healthy and is truly a good cause...Lastly, my song "Blockin' My Sunshine" will be featured on an upcoming compilation CD of the Detroit Music Scene...I'll let you know when these discs become available....

Lookout western Michigan!  This coming weekend will be the Pingstock Festival in Comstock...Melt plays Friday at 9PM and will be broadcast live on WKRK!

Melt songs finally mastered...Hear them at .

My version of Supernatural Blonde is finally completed...Through studio shutdowns, computer lockup, syphilis (Ok, not really syphilis) but plagued with problems...The song ended up coming out well and is being delivered this week...Look for the Butch Walker Tribute CD to come out soon...More details shortly...

Thanks to all the people who have been coming out to shows...You guys have been very supportive and it is so greatly appreciated...

Lastly, mark your calendars, Sept 16 and Sept 17 Melt, Fig, and Enuff Z'Nuff!!!!   Two nights with one of the greatest rock groups of all time...My Fig band only plays the Saturday show...

07/14/2005

I type this as pieces our kitchen (being remodeled and sits right above my hole in the ground studio) fall on my head.  This'll be quick.... has some songs up...They're yet to be mastered, but here ya go anyway!

Come check us out Saturday, July 23, at The Bullfrog...Please note the change in date as the show was originally scheduled the day before...Anyway, it'll all go down on the 23rd...

Then on Sunday the 24th at the "X-Fest" at The Hayloft...Yep, this is a strange Sunday afternoon gig...It's a cool little weekend event though starting Friday and ending Sunday night...Bands such as Jani Lane, Sponge, and Adema are also playing this weekend...We're on the outside stage from 2:00 -2:40 .... Give or take a few minutes for our usual equipment failures...

06/14/2005

Here's a clue:

Who Kneads Fiber anyway?

05/25/2005

Hey again everyone...I first want to thank the kind people that came out to our very first "Melt" show...We actually played more songs than the number of times we practiced...And it's all originals, of course...We'll have some in June, July (with Enuff Z'Nuff), and August so stayed tuned...The shows will take place at the Penalty Box, The Bullfrog, and a couple other spots in and around Detroit and hopefully some of the Midwest this summer...Dates will be firmed up and announced within the week...We also have a small page developing at that will have a new tune within a week...

I'll have an acoustic date to announce here too...Potentially a couple, it just depends how "The Melt Project" will go...So far, so good...And there may just be a couple more interesting announcements to come in the month ahead...I've probably just cursed any good luck by saying that...And since the Ambien is clearly flowing strong in my blood at the moment- I should stop right here...Behind the scenes things are moving fast...Rehearsals, recording, rehearsals, recording, writing, recording, etc...The stage will not be so unfamiliar this summer!  See you soon!

05/09/2005

So I'm slow at getting the updates done again....Big surprise huh?  Well actually there will be a big surprise in the video section next month!  I've had some nice emails asking for more photos, info, etc...SO, while I'm recording a song for an upcoming tribute CD and I will walk you through the whole process and narrate what it is like for someone to record, produce, and engineer their own recordings...The setting, my basement...Sounds ordinary, but I'll bet mine looks different than most!  From tracking the first track to mixing and mastering, you'll see it all!  It will be made available in the Video Section next month...As for the two newer live videos I promised to have...They are almost done...I use the software so infrequently that I always have to re-learn it...

As for band stuff...Let's see, the Melt project is going well...I am adjusting to being a bass player though I must admit, it's still strange to me...I can remember parts pretty easily on guitar....But bass, I've sunk to beginner's level...Almost Nikki Sixx, but not quite that bad :)   A chimp could learn parts faster sometimes...The band is sounding very good each week despite my performance....So I'm expecting some great things once we "click."

I've also been jamming with Nick, Shawn, and Vince...Which has been fun...I'm playing bass in that band too...We had a great weekend jam...

I'm gonna see what Bobvision has in store for me next...I think it will probably involve a short acoustic performance...Updates soon to come...Last I heard is that it'll be at Paycheck's in Ham Town...I'll let you know here...Thank you for your support!

4/18/2005

OK, so it's been a while since I've updated the page...Last week I was messing around on my hosting company's page and enabled my site statistics to be tracked for the first time ever...Today I went and checked it and was happily surprised...I had no idea that so many people were visiting the site...We're obviously not talking millions of hits...But when I saw that there were hundreds in just a week I realized that I need to update...

So here we are...How 'bout some actual news this time around?  I'm just beginning work on a song for a Beatles tribute CD...I'm doing Taxman - hopefully it'll make it onto the disc...I'll let you know right here in a few months...

Shows:  Well, right now I'm jamming with two bands...Neither of which is playing out anytime soon...I have some acoustic dates in the works just to keep myself "out there."

Video:  This month I will get up two new vids:  They were recorded at The After Dark Club in March 2005...The songs are Fate and Hot Flashes...Good quality video on these too!

New Material:  I am still writing and recording my next disc which I will have out by the end of this year...I've put a fair amount of time into "tribute" songs for various labels which has consumed my recording time for a bit...Some of the new songs are coming along well...It'll be a while longer, but I'll have some audio snippets available on the site soon...

Lastly, thanks to everyone for checking out the site...More frequent updates finally starting!  As always, please check out the Merch page as there will be an update soon...

3/2/2005

OK, change of plans....The originally scheduled show for 3/9/2005 is being moved to a new date...It is the singer/songwriter Center Stage finals and will be held within the month most likely....So, just for clarification, the 3/9 After Dark show is being rescheduled and will be announced shortly...

Also, much to my surprise, I have a song at that is doing quite well...If you go to the Epitaph Records Homepage and do a search for Fig, my song She's Got A Lot To Say will show up and I would greatly appreciate a vote for "sign these guys on Epitaph" or something similar...It only takes a second to do and there's some killer new music on that site...

2/27/2005

Thanks to everyone at for a great time last Wednesday at After Dark!  I've moved on to the next round of the "Center Stage" competition...I'll be back at After Dark on 3/9/2005 to play a special acoustic showcase...

Also, a big thanks to for the great review of Preoccupation Blue.  Here's a link- Just look under the 2004 archive link!

Here's the full text of the review:

Fig : Preoccupation Blue
Review: Well I've had this c.d. here forever, and decided to pop it in and see if I would want to review this.. and all I have to say is Awesome Stuff! It's a one man band .. Matt Fig, he plays everything, writes everything and records it all in his home studio.. If your a fan of 70's-ish.. pop rock, Enuff Z'Nuff style.. this is the guy for you, great catchy lyrics, great songs.. period. Someone needs to snatch this guy up...

Favorite Track: Well they all have there own style, but right off "The Good Together Brings"
Least Favorite Track: "Time to Time" isn't thrilling me.
